By Allison Martell NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cliffs Natural Resources Inc said on Wednesday that if iron ore prices fell further, it could scrap a key expansion at its Bloom Lake mine in Canada`s iron-rich Labrador Trough region. The company already delayed the expansion, which will double production capacity to 16 million metric tons a year, after benchmark iron ore prices plunged from a peak of over $190 per metric ton in 2011 to below $90 in 2012. The price has since recovered to around $120 per metric ton. ...

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Seven al-Qaida-linked gunmen detonated a pick-up truck rigged with explosives at the gate of the U.N. compound in Somalia`s capital Wednesday, launching a bombs-and-gunfire assault that saw militants pour into the complex, killing at least nine people, including three foreigners, officials said.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany has agreed the financing of an 8-billion euro fund to help repair damage caused by the worst flooding in a decade, with both the federal government and states footing the bill, the finance ministry said on Wednesday. The federal government at the outset will itself raise the full amount for the so-called `reconstruction aid` fund because of initial disagreement with the states on how the 16 regions would contribute their share of the cost. ...
