Business - Carey pressured from both sides of Fox Time Warner deal to stay in job

By Ronald Grover , Jennifer Saba and Liana B. Baker LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Chase Carey, Twenty-First Century Fox`s president and chief operating officer, may be feeling pressure to stay in his job for several more years both from his boss, Rupert Murdoch, and from the company Murdoch is trying to buy, Time Warner Inc. As Murdoch mulls his next step following Time Warner`s rejection of his $80 billion offer, some Time Warner investors say they are concerned about who might succeed the 83-year-old chairman and chief executive. In particular, they`re not sure whether Murdoch`s sons, James, 41, and Lachlan, 42, are ready to manage the integration challenge. The 60-year-old New Yorker, who`s been working for Murdoch since 1988 and earned a reputation for a no-nonsense leadership style, signed a two-year contract with Fox in June that gives him the option to opt out after 18 months.

World - Russia says will cooperate with MH17 probe led by Netherlands

By Al-Zaquan Amer Hamzah and Siva Govindasamy KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Russia will cooperate with the investigation into the downing of a Malaysian airliner a week ago and is satisfied that the Netherlands, rather than Ukraine, is leading the effort, the country`s ambassador to Malaysia said on Thursday. Liudmila Vorobyeva also rejected suggestions that the pro-Russian separatists blamed by Western governments for shooting down Flight MH17 possessed a Russian-made anti-aircraft missile, and said the rebels lacked the training to use such a system. Nearly 300 people, 193 of them Dutch citizens, were killed when the Malaysia Airlines plane en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was brought down in eastern Ukraine, where separatists are battling government forces, on July 17. The norm under rules set down by the United Nation`s civil aviation body (ICAO) is that an air investigation is led by the state in whose territory the plane crash, but Russia had said that Ukraine should not take charge because the rebels who control the crash site did not trust the authorities in Kiev.

Business - A Fox-Time Warner deal would give Murdoch new heft in China

Rupert Murdoch`s plan to buy Time Warner would help the Twenty-First Century Fox chairman make larger inroads in China, a fast-growing market that media moguls are finding hard to crack. Time Warner`s board rejected Murdoch`s $80 billion offer, but the Fox chairman is expected to continue the chase. It would also nearly double the revenues Fox generates from the emerging media markets in Latin America and Asia/Pacific. `He sees 3 billion new consumers coming into the market and a rising middle class in China and India, and mobile devices and strong demand for content,` said Mario Gabelli, the CEO of GAMCO Investors, in an interview with Reuters Insider, `He`s going to be able to create Netflixes of his own.` Gabelli owns shares of both Fox and Time Warner.

Business - Murdoch`s tenacity is the trade in Time Warner-Fox face-off

By Soyoung Kim and David Gaffen NEW YORK (Reuters) - Many investors say the best trading strategy around a potential takeover of Time Warner Inc by Twenty-First Century Fox is to wager that media baron Rupert Murdoch will pay up to get what he wants. Time Warner said on Wednesday it had rebuffed Twenty-First Century Fox`s roughly $80 billion bid, or $85 per share, in recent weeks over valuation and concerns that the Murdoch family will have too much power. Hedge fund traders and options strategists said the traditional merger arbitrage trade - short Twenty-First Century Fox and buy Time Warner - played out when the news broke. Murdoch made a stock and cash offer for Time Warner.
